Welcome!

Welcome to the blog Sideline Cheerleader! This blog was created as part of the Communication program taught at Southern Utah University. This is intended for educational purposes.

I am new to the world of sports. I am Angela and my children love to play sports. My son J is 12 and my daughter K is 9.  J mostly plays football, basketball and every other year baseball. K plays softball and wants to start basketball. Most of the rules for all the sports my kids play learned through the instructional league sponsored by our city recreation department. I love city recreation teams because I get to cheer for all the kids in the neighborhood. The more kids I know the better.

Our lives revolve around the Roy High Royals. We live golden and bleed black. My kids and I attend all the home games for the boys and girls basketball teams.  We starting cheering for them back in the day when Brekkott Chapman was a Freshman. The Royals haven’t always had winning seasons, but we sing the fight song along with the band win or lose. We also attend their football games. The last game we went to had over 8,000 people attend. Unfortunately, my work schedule right now prevents us from attending their softball and baseball games. There’s always next season.

When I was a student at Weber State University we went to several of their home basketball games. We look forward to Cheering for Brekkott again wearing the color purple. We miss the free student tickets.

When I graduate I want to give my husband season football tickets to the University of Utah, his favorite team. My dad passed away during the Ute's, Alabama game. When my son learned this he decided that was the way to go.

This blog will include about 12 entries and will cover several topics. The ones I am most excited to talk about are parent athlete communication, and player coach relationships. I will also cover communication between fans and how they identify and behave.  This will include sports media, social media and fantasy gaming.
